I started trading as Deca PT in September 2011. I chose the name ‘ Deca PT’ in reference to the fact that I have raced 3 times in the Deca Ironman , which consists of a 24 mile swim, 1120 mile bike and 262 mile run. It seemed appropriate to choose a business name that was connected to my biggest sporting achievement and reflects my company strapline;
I’m not what happened to me, I’m what I choose to become
I believe that all things are possible and hope that my example helps to motivate and inspire my clients.
I qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2008 with Premier Global, who are considered by many as the gold standard in Personal Training qualification. I obtained level 3 Active IQ certification in both Personal Training and Sports Massage Therapy. I began work as a Personal Trainer in January 2009, working for the Bodyforlife company at the Forest Hills Hotel in Frodsham, Cheshire. I continued there until setting up Deca PT in September 2011.
Previously, I have worked for 20 years as a school teacher, teaching Modern Languages ( French/German ) , English, PE, Personal and Social Education in England and New Zealand. I also have experience of working in France and Germany. I feel that my degree level education and working experience have all helped to develop many of the skills to be a successful trainer. I feel privileged to have a job that is also my hobby and my passion. I hope that my genuine enthusiasm to see my clients fulfill their potential shines through each and every session.
I train a wide variety of clients, ranging from people who are recovering from heart surgery to athletes competing in Ironman events and marathons. I have trained people ranging from ages 12 to 76 , with almost a 50/50 split of male/female. I also train people in pairs or in groups. I train 3 group sessions each week, including an accountancy firm , Styles and Co of Culcheth, who are also my main sponsor. I can train people at The Heath Business Park gym in Runcorn or in their own homes.
